Danny Ings bagged a second-half hat-trick as a Liverpool XI romped to a 7-0 victory over local side Felda United at Kuala Lumpur’s Bukit Jalil National Stadium.
At Brendan Rodgers’ request, the open training session in front of around 5,000 fans was transformed into a 30-minute per half game against the Malaysian Premier League side in order to give playing time to those on the fringes of his squad.
It was a team packed full of youth and with a sprinkling of experience with Ryan Fulton in goal and a back four of Andre Wisdom, Kolo Toure, Mamadou Sakho and Joe Maguire.
The inclusion of Sakho suggests that Dejan Lovren will start alongside Martin Skrtel in Friday’s final tour match against the Malaysian Selection
